Creating the Change We Wish To See
At Project Positive Change, we are deeply committed to supporting veterans, frontline workers, and their families through individualized, holistic programs that address mental health challenges. We understand the unique struggles faced by those dealing with PTSD, trauma, and suicidal thoughts, as well as the emotional toll on frontline workers and their loved ones. Our approach treats the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—by combining alternative therapies with evidence-based practices to promote healing, emotional resilience, and community reintegration.
Recognizing that every healing journey is unique, we create personalized plans tailored to each individual’s needs. Some may be hesitant to seek care, while others are ready to fully engage, so we offer a variety of services that allow participants to ease into the healing process at their own pace. Our goal is not only to address the immediate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression but to provide long-term support that empowers individuals to reclaim control of their mental health and thrive in their daily lives.
- Sound Healing Therapy: Our program incorporates evidence-based research in music therapy, group drumming, and sound meditation to help individuals process trauma, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional regulation.
- Mindfulness & Meditation: We offer mindfulness practices that help veterans and their families manage stress and anxiety, promoting emotional balance and self-awareness.
- Community Gardening / Dirt Therapy: This provides a calming space where veterans can connect with nature while fostering social interaction. Additionally, our Dirt Credits program allows volunteers to earn credits to use towards services through activities like gardening or facility improvement.
- Cacao Ceremony: A special blend of ceremonial cacao, sound healing, meditation, and social integration. Participants consume cacao, known for its therapeutic benefits, followed by sound healing (e.g., singing bowls, gongs) and meditation to promote emotional release and relaxation. This ceremony encourages reflection and connection, providing a supportive space for veterans dealing with PTSD.
- Therapeutic Arts: Creative expression through visual arts and other mediums allow individuals to process emotions and trauma in a non-verbal way, offering an outlet for emotional healing.
- Exercise Therapy: We incorporate physical activities like Tai Chi, yoga, and cycling to promote a healthy body-mind connection, helping reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
- Nature Walks: These are designed to help veterans reconnect with the healing power of nature, fostering mindfulness and mental clarity.
- Social Integration Support: We offer resume assistance, career advice, interview coaching, and a variety of community-driven workshops and group services to help veterans and their families reintegrate socially, build connections, and reduce feelings of isolation.
- Technology and VA Access Support: Navigating technology can be a challenge for many veterans, which is why we’ve recently begun offering assistance with computer-related issues. This service includes helping veterans access crucial online resources, such as the VA’s services and benefits.
We also have formed strong relationships with several organizations in the Stanwood/Camano area, including Hooves and Heroes, and we’ve partnered with Camano Counseling to offer referrals for traditional therapy when needed, and they send us referrals when their clients are looking for more holistic or alternative healing methods.
We are part of the local American Legion and are continuing to create strong relationships and partnerships with the local VA branches. As we continue to expand and grow our network, we are grateful for the connections and support we’re receiving! This support ensures that veterans have access to both alternative and traditional forms of support through a wide network of trusted partners.
